The comparison to the Chernobyl accident brings to mind the US response to our own Three Mile Island disaster in which the Public Health Service refused to provide treatment within the 3 day period to prevent development of thyroid cancer following radiation exposure. It was briefly reported. I contacted the individual who did the reporting and he was told, in no uncertain terms, to never mention it again. Apparently to avoid widespread panic and anger. Sadly, China and Russia aren't the only ones who have trouble with the truth during crises.
