This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute.
Rep. Ilhan Omar hails originally from Somalia, a nation in which virtually all girls are subjected to a singularly horrific form of child abuse: female genital mutilation.
Given her background and adherence to Sharia, the Islamic doctrine that condones this practice, Muslims and others may reasonably wonder whether she condemns FGM.
But when a self-described “Muslim progressive” made that inquiry recently, Rep. Omar denounced FGM, but not nearly as ferociously as she did the questioner, simply for raising the topic.
If the Congresswoman genuinely wants to demonstrate her opposition to female genital mutilation – rather than simply deflect attention from the fact that Somali women and girls are among the half-million estimated to be at risk of this barbaric abuse in America – she should immediately co-sponsor the “Federal Prohibition of FGM Act of 2019,” introduced by Rep. Scott Perry and Sen. Marsha Blackburn.
