Claudia Rosett analyzes the UNESCO relationship with the United States Government. Rosett take us back to President Reagan’s decision to stop funding UNESCO due to the high corruption inside the organization, and why President Bush decided to support UNESCO in 2003. The U.S decided to withdraw their funding to the organization (22% percent of UNESCO’s core budget) after it voted last October to confer membership to the Palestinian Authority. What are the real reasons for UNESCO to seek United States funding? What would they use this money for?
Mark Thiessen examines the five real risks to the United States if it loses in Afghanistan. The drone war in Pakistan would stop, the Taliban would be free to reconstitute themselves and take control of the Pashtun area in Pakistan, Al-Qaeda will regain its sanctuary, Al-Qaeda and other groups would be embolden to strike against the United States, and finally it would send a sign of weakness to the enemies of the United States, especially Iran. Considering these disadvantages, should the U.S. withdraw from Afghanistan or should they maintain presence in the region?
Kevin Freeman explains the economic war between Iran and the United states over the price of oil and the repercussions this have on the Iranian and American economies. Iran has the third-largest oil reserves in the world and pricing oil in currencies other than dollars is a provocative move aimed at Washington. If Iran switches to non-dollar terms for its oil payments, there could be a new oil price that would be denominated in euros, yens or even the yuan or rupee. Iran already started to talk to India over how they can “trade” oil for rupees.
Even more surprisingly, reports have suggested that India is even considering paying for its oil in gold bullion. However, it is more likely that the country will pay in rupees, a currency that is not freely convertible. The United States needs to find a solution to this economical warfare in order to avoid spending excessive amounts of money in a battle we could have won.
Jim Hanson assesses Vice President Biden’s recent comments about the air strike that killed Osama bin Laden. Vice President Biden at a fundraiser in New Jersey said “ the bin Laden raid was the ‘most Audacious’ plan in 500 years.” Hanson moves on to Afghanistan, and examines the drastic consequences of having to obtain advance notice (warrant) from Afghan judges to carry out night raids. How does this jeopardize the troops? Would this compromise our ability to capture terrorists?

Retired Lieutenant General and President of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, Nicholas Kehoe joins Frank to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Kehoe discusses what exactly this award represents as well as the type of people who receive it. The best description of the award, which comes from the book Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty, is that soldiers “earn it at the intersection of happenstance and hell”. It embodies characteristics that apply to people in their everyday lives and the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation works to spread these ideals through their development programs.
Claudia Rosett, journalist-in-residence at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, and former writer for The Wall Street Journal, joins Frank to discuss the topic of Kim Jung Il. His only legacy is that of a missile proliferator who ran a repressive regime and engaged in drug-trafficking and the counterfeiting of American currency. It would be a mistake for Obama to perpetuate his regime by striking deals with his successor. In addition, it appears that Hillary Clinton is mimicking such behavior by allowing the advancement of the agenda of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the United States, after the recent State Department-OIC conference in Washington.
Frank’s next guest today is Gal Luft, Executive Director of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security and senior advisor to the US Energy Security Council. Mr. Luft addresses what he calls the “energy security paradox” in which we have significantly reduced our dependency on foreign oil over the past seven years, yet we are becoming poorer and deeper in debt. This is because even with self-sufficiency, we do not have control over the price of oil. Luft suggests that we can only regain control by introducing new competition to offset the oil monopoly.
Today’s show concludes with former U.S. Special Forces operator Jim Hanson speaking with Frank about the 150th Anniversary of the Congressional Medal of Honor, Joe Biden’s ineptness as Vice President, and Bradley Manning. In the wake of the anniversary of this award for service to our nation, some recent events are unsettling. Joe Biden recently commented that the Taliban are not our enemy. This comment reflects our poor national security policy regarding Afghanistan. Similarly, the release of classified military information by US Army soldier Bradley Manning highlights the issue of how this administration turns a blind eye to certain security issues.

“We must insist our Representatives and members in Congress do what the Constitution tells them to do, which is to provide for the common defense. It is the first duty of government and one that we must insist they perform.” Frank kicks off today’s show reflecting on what is occurring on Capitol Hill. Leon Panetta and Martin Dempsey warned Congress of the dire impact of major defense cuts. Congress is in process of undoing the most formidable military, as the world is becoming even more dangerous.
Will President Obama’s decision to remove the surge forces in Afghanistan put the remaining 3,000 American forces at risk? General Jack Keane examines the administration’s proposed pull out of 30,000 troops by next September. Although the Taliban has been largely defeated in southern Afghanistan, the operation in the east continues to face threats. It is not a matter of the Taliban having endeared themselves in the hearts and minds of the people in the east, but rather that these people live in continued fear of the militant forces. General Keane argues that once all members of the Taliban have been killed, the Afghan people will be automatically on our sides. Since General Allen has taken over control of the US forces in Afghanistan, he has started an assessment of the situation. In his assessment, he has laid out an unacceptable level of risk associated with the current plans for troop withdrawal. However, the President continues to ignore the council of generals who argue that 3,000 troops will not be enough to secure the nation.
Should Turkey try to confront Iran for its hostilities in the region, rather than ignore the nation like the United States has done? Journalist-in-residence at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Claudia Rosett shares with Frank her recent experiences attending a pro-free market conference in Turkey. The situation in Turkey today paints a dark scene for democracy in the state. The ascendance of the AKP Islamic Part in 2002 saw the beginning of a sinister takeover of the country by Islamists. Turkish citizens are becoming more and more concerned due to many journalists being arrested after the publication of articles criticizing the government. The former narrative of a Turkey was that of a country ruled by a Muslim majority who believed in having a moderate, democratic, and free market nation. After the neutering of the Turkish military, the country has started on the path towards the revival of the Ottoman Empire.
National Security Editor at the Washington Times and weekly Friday guest here on Secure Freedom Radio, Bill Gertz concludes today’s show talking Panetta, Dempsey, and the Air Sea Battle concept. Security of Defense Leon Panetta and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey appeared before the House Armed Services Committee this week to warn of the serious effects that $450 billion of defense cuts would have on our nation’s national security. The US’s ability to provide protection in regions overrun with terrorists such as countries in Northern Africa will be eliminated with these proposed cuts. Many members in Congress are trying to avoid the slash and burn approach taken in relation to defense cuts. Moreover, Gertz discusses his recent article about the Air Sea Battle concept, where air forces are used to protect naval ships from a possible future conflict with China.

Is the all mighty leader of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, on his final months of life? Visiting Fellow at AEI, Roger Noriega kicks off today’s show sharing his thoughts on Hugo Chavez’s deathwatch. According to sources in the country, Hugo Chavez has just returned from his third round of chemotherapy to treat his colon cancer. This information contradicts official reports by Venezuelan officials who stated that he had just returned from his fourth trip to Cuba. The earlier trip to Cuba for chemotherapy was a fabrication of the Chavismo leadership who wanted to appear open, while also keeping the opposition guessing. This is the perfect example of a classic dictatorship, says Noriega, where the top leaders continually lie. Additionally these sources say that Chavez will not survive his cancer, but might stick around until the October 2012 elections. If he is able to hold on to life, the organized opposition groups will have a slim chance at beating him. The problem is further exacerbated by the fact that the Obama administration holds a “flat-footed” policy in South America, where they would rather ignore Chavez than speak out in support of opposition groups. Was Obama’s speech in front of the UN General Assembly able to successfully put heed to his comments in May acknowledging the possibility of a Palestinian state? Journalist-in-residence at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, Claudia Rosett covers the ominous stirrings in the United Nations. Although this will be the seventh time that the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will come before the UN General Assembly, the more pressing issue is the Palestinian statehood debate. The General Assembly is consumed by the political debates surrounding the issue. Rosett is critical of Obama’s speech, as she sees it as a campaign speech rather than a Presidential one. Palestinians were similarly disappointed in his speech, as it failed to endorse or acknowledge official statehood such he did in a speech last year. On the other hand, Israel was happy with his speech as he did not make mention of the 1967 borders. In Rosett’s view, these debates are merely methods of ganging up on the US and its allies in order to give them a “giant poke in the eye.” American attorney and political writer, David Rivkin presents the legal case against Palestinian statehood. As said by Rivkin, objective criteria must first be met in order for a given entity to be granted statehood in the United Nations. Under these rights and duties, the given entity needs to have a territory, population, government that exercises effective sovereignty, and is able to go into agreements with other nations. According to these standards, Palestine does not meet the basic objective criteria to become a state. Palestine does not control Gaza or even the West Bank. Since Israel controls most of the land that Palestine claims, Israel is the only one that can “midwife” Palestine into a state. Furthermore, the United Nations is not in the business of recognizing the state, but is only able to take an existing state and make it a member of the UN. While some argue that the Vatican is an exception to this rule, Rivkin fires back that the Vatican, as the oldest existing state in history was able to merely ushered into the UN with non-member status. Weekly regular guest here at Secure Freedom Radio and National Security Writer for the Washington Times, Bill Gertz concludes today’s show enlightening Frank on how Adm. Mullen of the NSC directly links the Pakistani ISI with the Haqqani terrorist network, an arm of Al Qaeda. The White House is also working on a secret mini-Nuclear Posture Review that will change military requirements for the U.S. strategic arsenal. This allows them to use the cover of budget cuts to pursue an ideological zero nuke policy. Also, Gertz talks Wikileaks and how one cable reveals that North Korea has had a greater counterfeiting capacity than previously known of U.S. monetary notes.

Is the upcoming United Nations vote to recognize Palestinian statehood a “grand deflection” to keep the world’s eyes off the true crisis of the moment, Iran? Claudia Rosett, Journalist-in-Residence at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, joins Frank to discuss the “raft of problems” associated with September’s UN General Assembly vote. To start with, the UN does not grant statehood. Rosett explains the vote, which already failed in the Security Council earlier this year, is just the latest episode in a long propaganda campaign by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League and the “usual gang” steering the UN’s agenda, to delegitimize Israel. “This is about squeezing Israel,” says the Pajamas Media columnist, and a “bid to create a terrorist state.” Then, Congressman Louie Gohmert, of Texas, discusses the “now we run” strategy in Libya, where backing the rebel government is analogous to Jimmy Carter’s welcoming of the Ayatollah Khomeini as a “man of peace.” “These are not people that like us,” says Rep. Gohmert. Although the sentiments in Libya are troubling, there are encouraging signs in the House of Representatives, where Gohmert sits, including a new bill to correspond our level of influence at the UN with our level of funding. The Congressman, a former judge, also discusses President Obama’s Executive rule by waiver, “where the rule of law is tossed aside and it’s not equal application of the law it’s who you know that gets you by,” he says. Next, Frank welcomes back Patrick Byrne, of Overstock.com, to Secure Freedom Radio to give the bird’s eye view of economic warfare. Byrne explains the settlement system, designed 20 years ago to computerize our economy, built with inherit flaws, ones that can be exploited by our enemies. Osama Bin Laden once said, “I know the cracks in the Western financial system better than I know the cracks in my own hand,” and Byrne details how Hamas, Hezbollah, the Russian mafia, Genovese and others have manipulated the market. Byrne, President and CEO of Overstock, documents the mortgage fraud schemes by al-Qaeda in 2008 and concludes by telling us what we can do to thwart this threat. Finally, Contributing Editor of National Review, Andy McCarthy discusses his latest column where he describes the descent of major cities in Europe into Islamicized enclaves. McCarthy describes the ideological falsehood that terrorism has no impetus behind it, which has guided these cities into “voluntary apartheid.” Malmo, Amsterdam, Rome and Brussels have all lost the sovereignty of their governments to Islam not by those acts of terrorism, but systematically by way of Civilization Jihad. Muslims are urged to relocate to the West, not assimilate, what Turkey’s Prime Minister calls a “crime against humanity,” and infiltrate its laws and bureaucracy. The former prosecutor and author of The Grand Jihad explains how the U.S. can avoid the same fate of Europe by coupling outreach with intelligence gathering like the NYPD has done in New York City.
